INDIANAPOLIS The NCAA Division I Softball Committee announced today 20 predetermined preliminary round sites for this year's Division I Softball Championship.

Of the 20 selected sites, the committee will choose 16 to host regional round games. Eight of those 16 regional sites will be in contention to host super regionals.

We should be in good shape to be a regional host, and from there hopefully a super regional host.

Texas was still ranked ahead of us going into this weekend, at least on the rankings on the NCAA site, but that should be rectified now. Hopefully we'll be in the top 8 heading into the regionals.

the ranking that is listed on the linked list has us at #11, with other host bidders Ark at #10 and OU at #1

That's 3 sites pretty close to one another.....

that ranking was through 4/27

In other rankings we've jumped as high as 6 after sweeping Texas. I don't know if we'll jump that much in the NCAA ones.

I'm not sure how the SEC Softball Championships work, but it probably would be good for Arkansas to hit a rough patch. Having a potential 4 games with OU over the next two weekends could make us look not so great.

Arkansas has played its last game until the SEC tournament (unless there are make-up games not listed on their schedule).

In the latest RPI listed on NCAA.com, Arkansas is #6, Oklahoma #7, and OSU #8.

These rankings were from last week, before the OSU-Texas series. While OSU was playing Texas, OU was idle and Arkansas played LSU, winning 2 and losing 1. I expect there will be new RPI numbers posted tomorrow and it will be interesting to see how it changes.

The Bedlam series, regardless of the outcome, should increase the strength of schedule for both teams. Our raw RPI numbers should go up, even if we don't win a game. (I'm not saying our RPI Ranking will go up, but the RPI score should go up.)

New RPI rankings are on the NCAA site:

OSU moved up from #8 to #7.

0u moved up from #7 to #4.

Arkansas still at #6. A lot of SEC bias in the rankings...there are four SEC teams in the top six. The most surprising one is LSU, whom OSU beat twice. LSU's record is 31-18, yet they are still ranked #5 in the RPI. The only answer is strength of schedule. But all of the SEC teams get a SOS boost from playing each other.

sounds a lot like what they did for basketball, and those B10 and other schools dropped off like flies in the Big dance...

hopefully it's just more left-over COVID season nonsense....

New RPI rankings were posted on the NCAA site today:

Cowgirls moved up to #5, jumping both LSU and Arkansas, after both of those teams lost in the quarterfinals of the SEC tournament yesterday.

that's some good news there, especially since we just eeked out a win in the B12 tournament

We may have only eeked out the win, but Texas is still ranked #9 in the RPI and our Cowgirls have now beat them four times. That one-point, walk-off win in the 9th inning will be another boost to our RPI.

Now the girls need to stay focused against Iowa State (RPI #34) this afternoon, then try to beat the goons in the championship game tomorrow.
