STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State Board of Regents has approved and presented head coach Mike Gundy a perpetual five-year rollover contract. It’s expected to be signed sometime within the next month.

While the terms haven’t been announced yet, this contract will be similar to the contract he had before COVID-19. There will, however, be some new terms added to this contract as well.

“I appreciate the leadership of Athletic Director Chad Weiberg to recognize the immeasurable impact a successful athletic program can have on the presence and prominence of the overall university,” said President Dr. Kayse Shrum. “Our coaches dedicate themselves to helping our student-athletes succeed academically and athletically. Our program is strong financially and operationally, and we are in a great position moving ahead. Coach Gundy is the most successful football coach in Oklahoma State's history. We applaud what he has accomplished on the field and admire the unique culture he has created, which positively impacts the lives of the young men who come to Oklahoma State to play football and get an education. We are excited about the success of our football program under Coach Gundy and look forward with great anticipation to the future.”

“My working relationship with Dr. Shrum and Chad Weiberg since they came on board has been the best I’ve ever had at Oklahoma State,” Mike Gundy told Pokes Report. “I’m anxious to move on and get my coaching staff taken care of for the future. The best days of Oklahoma State football are ahead.”

Now discussion and serious work and progress can be made on the contracts for the assistant football coaches. Gundy is anxious for that process to be completed. Defensive coordinator Jim Knowles is the top priority based on the defensive performance the past few seasons. It’s possible Knowles becomes the highest-paid coordinator in program history. He currently makes $800,000 a year.

This new contract for Gundy should put any questions other coaches from schools across the country have posed to recruits about the stability of the Cowboy football program. Gundy’s going to be in Stillwater until the end of his coaching career.
