STILLWATER – I learned a long time ago that when you lose football games there are no shoulders to cry on and nobody want to hear you bitching and moaning over the way your loss is treated. It is no surprise that Oklahoma State fell from the top 10 after their 24-21 loss at Iowa State on Saturday. Some may be surprised that the Cowboys fell seven places back in the Associated Press poll to 15 and six places in the USA Today poll, also to 15.

Severe, I’m not sure because Penn State fell as much as 13 places (Associated Press 7-to-20) after losing to Illinois. Coastal Carolina dropped 10 places in the AP after losing to Appalachian State. Meanwhile, Oklahoma fell just one spot after trailing Kansas 10-0 at the half and coming back to win 35-23.

Oklahoma State did stay in the National Football Federation and Football Writers Association of American Power 16 as they came in at No. 14.

Other Big 12 teams in the rankings are Baylor (No. 16 in AP and No. 18 in USA Today) and Iowa State (No. 22 in AP and No. 23 in USA Today).

Oklahoma State plays Kansas on Saturday for Homecoming in Stillwater at Boone Pickens Stadium with a kickoff at 6 p.m. That game will be televised on FS1.

These polls all take a backseat with little or no importance starting next week when the College Football Playoff Selection Committee begins releasing their weekly top 25 rankings.
