Cowboys Land Second Commitment In '23 Class With Louisiana Safety Kam Franklin

Oklahoma State is now riding just as hot off the field as they are on the field.

Mike Gundy and the rest of the staff got some great news as 2023 safety Kam Franklin told them he would be committing to become a Cowboy.

Franklin, who visited Stillwater last weekend for the beatdown against TCU, was able to get in front of the coaches face to face and see up close how the program is run. This was a key factor in an early decision.

Franklin 6’3 and 185 pounds and from Oak Grove, Louisiana, chose the Cowboys over his impressive group of early offers.  The programs to already extend an offer include LSU, SMU, Texas Tech, TCU, Mississippi, State, Arkansas and Tennessee.

After the visit, I interviewed Franklin and he told me was “sold” on the Cowboys. He truly meant it and has acted upon it.

At the TCU game, it was easy for Franklin to come away impressed, which you would expect after a 63-17 win. The defense has been impressing all season, so I asked Franklin what it was like to watch a defense like this and how it felt to be wanted to a group like that.

“Well, it’s just good to know that they want to be on a defense like that and that they think I’m good enough to be on a team that can hold someone to only a few points.”

I don’t think it is any coincidence that this commitment comes just 12 hours after Oklahoma State shut out Texas Tech in Lubbock, something no one has done in Lubbock in 34 years. The starting defense has not allowed a single touchdown in four games, which makes this defense extremely enticing to play in.

The Cowboys now hold two commitments in the 2023 class, both on the defensive side of the ball. Joining Franklin is Del City (OK) defensive lineman Jaedon Foreman.

I would expect that the momentum carries into the month of December and as bowl season kicks off. Oklahoma State is feeling good about themselves on and off the field... and so are recruits.
