Joe Bob Clements Not Going to Ohio State, Twitter Site Low on Accuracy

STILLWATER – On Sunday when the Twitter site FQ Ohio State was pushing out a tweet loaded with more inaccurate information than real facts, including that Oklahoma State defensive line coach Joe Bob Clements was set to join former Oklahoma State defensive coordinator Jim Knowles at Ohio State, Clements was busy in Stillwater.

The Cowboys defensive line coach was visible to the estimated couple of thousand fans at the Oklahoma State wrestling match with Columbia. Later, Clements was at home canning deer meat stew from his hunting harvest this past season. Clements was not in Columbus, Ohio nor has he been anytime recently.

This site is not to be trusted.

Tonight, Clements will join his young defensive end at Oklahoma State Collin Oliver as the two will appear on a media Zoom conference to be honored for Oliver making the Football Writers Association of America’s Freshman All-American team.

It is true Clements filled in and called the game defensively against Notre Dame and I know Clements wanted to take over as defensive coordinator or maybe co-defensive coordinator. Last Friday head coach Mike Gundy first said publicly that he is going to hire that position outside to an experienced defensive play caller and coordinator. He also said that he met with the defensive staff last week to go over the situation. Clements confirmed those meetings and told me he has moved on and is good with what will happen. Clements, a former All-Big Eight honoree as a walk-on defensive end at Kansas State has also coached at K-State, Kansas, and San Diego State. He is going into his 12th season at Oklahoma State.

When I was first made aware of the tweet from FQ Ohio State the inaccuracy of it hit me and initially made me weary of believing it. Yes, Oklahoma State defensive graduate assistant Koy McFarland has been hired in the same capacity at Ohio State, at least in non full-time positions on the Ohio State staff. Michael Hunter has not been hired by Ohio State and remains on the Oklahoma State staff as a defensive graduate assistant. Former Cowboys defensive quality control coach Brent Zdebski, reported by FQ Ohio State as the Buckeyes are attempting to poach, has actually accepted a similar job at Ohio State.

As of now to make it clear, McFarland and Zdebski are gone to Ohio State. Hunter is still with the Oklahoma State staff. The former player as a cornerback at both Indiana and Oklahoma State from 2011-15, recorded 102 tackles, 16 pass break ups and three interceptions. As an undrafted rookie free agent he spent four seasons in the NFL with the New York Giants, New York Jets, Denver Broncos, Buffalo Bills, Houston Texans and Kansas City Chiefs.

If you are reporting on people lives and their jobs and these are jobs and people that fans care about the least you can do is check, double check your sources and facts, that is if you have any and then be accurate in your reporting.
