In-Person Recruiting Less Than a Month Away, Camps Too

STILLWATER – Football camps have been going on college campuses forever and in the last 10-15 years have become huge in the recruiting process, but in the summer of 2020 those camps never took place. COVID-19 shut down the camps and for the past 15 months have eliminated in-person recruiting at the Division I level. Oklahoma State’s coaching staff has not been able to go on the road in the permissible recruiting months to evaluate or watch prospective recruits or commitments. The same with those prospects and recruits coming on campus and meeting in-person with Mike Gundy and his staff. That all changes at the end of May as in-person recruiting will happen again. That also means camps will be happening.

There are also official visits in the month of June and in fact, on June 9-11 the Oklahoma State football staff will welcome in all 10 of their current verbal commitments for an official visit. There are a number of other prospects scheduled to visit in June that also might jump in on some camp action.

Those of us that have covered recruiting for years know that while coaches can’t specifically recruit in camps, they can get in-person evaluations and that after camp activities conclude it is permissible to recruit a prospective student-athlete while on your campus.

Oklahoma State has announced their camp schedule.

Camp Date Cost
Mini Camp #1 June 6 $50
Down and Dirty Lineman Camp June 8 $75
Youth Camp June 14 $105
Special Teams Camp June 15 $60

You can go to this link to register for any of the camps or the Coaches Clinic.

The mini camp is an all-purpose came for high school age players and it is a camp that can get you noticed in recruiting. The same for the lineman camp, which is a contact camp. The youth camp is for the younger ages and is a learning camp with football fundamentals and no contact. The special teams camp is run by M.K. Taylor and is for specialist in kicking, punting, and snapping.

There are other dates reserved for camps that the program is not promoting at this time.

Oklahoma State Football will host its annual Coaches Clinic on June 21, 2021.  You can also register for that at the link we have above. This is the clinic that was originally scheduled this past spring and has normally taken place in the spring.

The Coaches Clinic provides in-person training and educational sessions coupled with networking and professional growth opportunities.  This is a full day of football in Stillwater.  The OSU coaches will hold breakout sessions throughout the day for film review, questions and chalk talk.  Those in attendance will also be allowed to observe a weight room session and hear from Master Strength Coach Rob Glass.
