STILLWATER – Oklahoma State’s Mike Boynton is going to be donning the iconic red, white and blue of USA Basketball over the summer as he’s been chosen to join Jamie Dixon’s staff for the U19 FIBA World Cup.

Joining Boynton on Dixon’s staff is Stanford head coach Jerod Haase and Yale head coach James Jones. This year’s tournament is being held this summer, July 3-11, in Riga and Daugavpils, Latvia.

“I’ve been asked to join USA Basketball’s coach team for the 19 and under [team] that’s competing this summer,” Mike Boynton told Pokes Report’s Robert Allen. “So, I’ll go down to Fort Worth around the third week in June to help them figure out who they want to have on that team. Jamie Dixon’s leading that group, so it’s an awesome opportunity to be a part of USA Basketball.”

This is the same team Cowboys Cade Cunningham and Isaac Likekele won the gold medal with in Greece back in 2019.

The training camp is set to take place the third week of June down in Fort Worth, TX and features some pretty prominent 2021 signees and current college players. Big 12 players Devin Askew (Texas), Montverde, and soon-to-be Baylor Bear, Langston Love and TCU’s Mike Miles, as well as Arkansas’ Jaylin Williams and the No. 1 overall prospect in the 2021 class and Gonzaga signee, Chet Holgren among others.

“It’s the ultimate, being able to represent your country and have that USA across your chest and knowing you’re competing against the best athletes in that age group in the world,” said Boynton. “So, it’ll be a tremendous opportunity and I’m thankful for the people at USA Basketball for thinking enough of me to have me included in it.”
