Oklahoma State Lands Memphis Transfer Moussa Cisse

Mike Boynton and Co. have officially filled the roster heading into the 2021 season. Memphis transfer, and AAC Freshman of the Year, Moussa Cisse, just announced on Twitter and ESPN he’s committed to Oklahoma State.

Cisse chose the Pokes over Cincinnati, Creighton, Florida State, Georgia and return trip to Memphis.

“I see what they did with Cade Cunningham,” Cisse said on ESPN. “I had to decide whether to go to the NBA or college. I watched a lot of film and saw the way they developed players. That was attractive to me. Coach Mike Boynton has been talking to me for a while now, trying hard. I can tell that he really likes me, and he can give be a chance to develop my game and take it to the next level.”

This is the third 2020 five-star Boynton and Co. have landed in the past two seasons, joining Cade Cunningham and Kansas transfer Bryce Thompson.

Cisse is a 6-11, 220-pound center out of Conakry, Guinea in West Africa. He was the AAC Freshman of the Year this past season after averaged 6.6 points and 6.3 rebounds a game. He also blocked 46 shots on the season and was just shy of becoming just the fifth Memphis player since 1992-93 to average at least 7.0 points and 7.0 rebounds a game.

He ranked seventh in the AAC in rebounding, was second in the conference in blocked shots per game at 1.6 and recorded four double-doubles on the year with six games with 10 or more rebounds.

He declared for the NBA Draft back on April 6 while maintaining his eligibility, which ultimately paid off as he announced on July 2 he would be returning to school. He did, however, enter the transfer portal shortly after he entered his name into Draft.

"That was a really good experience of me," Cisse told ESPN. "It was surprising to see how much the NBA were encouraging me. People can see how my game has changed. They see the future in me and say they really like me. They want to see more from me, and that's why I need to improve my game.

"I've been watching a lot of the NBA game, studying players like Clint Capela, Joel Embiid, Pascal Siakam and Giannis -- big athletic guys that run the floor, catch lobs and play with skill."

Cisse is the fourth transfer landed by Boynton and Co., as he joins Kansas transfer, and fellow 2020 five-star Bryce Thompson, Texas Tech transfer Tyreek Smith and Syracuse transfer Woody Newton.

"Our goal is to win the Big 12 conference tournament and the national championship," Cisse told ESPN. "Last year I didn't get to go to the NCAA tournament. That's a big goal of mine. I see all the pieces they've got coming back at Oklahoma State. We're going to be really good.

"The coaching staff told me I'm going to keep doing what I do well, but I'm going to be able to get more touches and show I can face up in the post. Coach knows I can shoot a little from midrange. I just need to keep working, develop and help my team win games."

what the heck is wrong with Boynton? He pulls in a #24 ranked class, then a #13 ranked class, and he hasn't even sniffed the top 50 in 2021 or 2022.

Why can't the guy recruit anymore? (bru ha ha - all hail recruiting rankings)

the day of the portal has arrived my friends, it's time we look differently at everything we thought we knew

I'm really excited about this pickup. His stats don't jump off the page at you, but he was a true freshman playing only 18.6 minutes per game. He could easily become a double double machine and a great shot blocker as he matures. He may not be in Stillwater long if he develops quickly.

This has the potential of being one of the best pick ups Mike Boynton has brought in. Great size, solid stats out of Memphis and the fact he was able to perform at the D1 level gives a lot of confidence.

Yor and Moussa are the exact same size.

Yor could shoot better and block better and had a 7-2 wing span

Moussa's wingspan is 7-4 1/2 and a 9-4 standing reach.

well, alrighty then.

I'm glad we have him, bigs inside was the main position that we needed to address.

we'll be counting on you to report on what we have, once practice starts this Fall.

I would take Cisse over Anei. He has a long way to go offensively, but his athleticism is special. He can get eye level with the rim when he jumps. Check out the 10 second mark of this highlight video. His vertical is insane for a player his size.

thanks, but I'm going to pass on watching high school ball.

what do you have from his time at Memphis?

Looking forward to watch this young man develop. A lot of potential. If we can keep this group together without someone hitting the portal, there is a chance for deep runs in the tourney, Big 12 titles and more good recruiting. Welcome to the Cowboy family! Go Pokes!

I may have to renew my subscription to ESPN+ to catch most of the games.

I think this season has the potential to be much better than last year, we have a more complete and deeper team, IMO.

maybe.... just maybe I can make a trip back in the Spring and catch a game, since I'll be retired then, and I've never been inside GIA since the expansion... I've heard it's sort of nice.

I've been a season ticket holder for OSU basketball since Leonard Hamilton was here. That says two things - I'm older than most of you and I've seen a lot of OSU basketball. It's been amazing to watch Coach Boynton develop as a Head Coach and recruiter. He's had bumps along the way (high attrition rate in recruiting and the probation hanging over his head). But, the strength and depth of this roster is amazing considering he recruited a bunch of them with our probation still unresolved. I'm not sure the transfer portal is good for college sports but it's here and, as a coach, you have to learn how to use it. Our entire recruiting class are transfers. Boynton shows he's adapted pretty well and I believe he will continue his growth in all areas of being being a head coach. I think most most of us are as excited about OSU basketball as we've been since Eddie left. Hopefully this will translate to W's again and a rocking GIA. We'll see.

People need to be buying tickets and support this coach. If you can't afford/justify the time or expense, get a group ticket going with one or two friends. I used to do that before buying all the season for my own use. We had three people split two tickets and the cost. Drew a card to determine game picking order. It worked out fine.

do any of our prior coaches get to participate in actual practice time (on the court) coaching (e.g., Scott Sutton, etc) or are they relegated to analysis, strategy and team meetings?

I'd like to hear a report by Pokes Report with player comments, or coach comments about the team development, the practices regimine, their strengths, etc.

we have a whole new coaching staff and we haven't heard much about them other then their resumes....

The program will usually hold a media availability towards the end of July, first part of August to allow updates following summer workouts. Trust me, everyone's chomping at the bit to see how this teams looks, how the new guys fit in and are doing and how the returners have progressed from last season. I'll have a few progress pieces on players and the new coaching staff as soon as I get the chance.

To answer your question on Sutton, all the guys on the coaching staff participate during practice, from the head coach down to the GAs and everyone in between.
