REPORT: NCAA Committee on Infractions Puts Stay on OSU's Postseason Ban

STILLWATER – Some good news came out on Wednesday afternoon regarding Oklahoma State basketball’s appeals process on the postseason ban. According to a report from ESPN’s Joe Lunardi, the NCAA’s Committee on Infractions has put a stay on the Cowboys postseason ban pending an appeal.

Lunardi also stated that had the news came out yesterday, ESPN would’ve been ranked as a No. 8 seed in ESPN’s latest Bracketology. As it is, ESPN will start including the Pokes in the upcoming Bracketology rankings.

Now, this doesn’t mean the committee won’t come out in the coming months leading up to the NCAA tournament and deem the Pokes ineligible.

According to a source close to the program, the committee has put off the first in-person meetings and interviews with Oklahoma State until the first week of Feb. Members of the athletic department will travel to Indianapolis at that time to meet with the committee to plead their argument against the punishment. They can’t bring any more evidence to try and argue their case, just argue against the punishment.

The Cowboys will be back on the floor this coming Saturday against Wichita State in Wichita, KS. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. CT on ESPN+.

Well that's a positive. The ban shouldn't be reinstated until they find against the appeal, so them pushing the first hearing back to Feb may well mean that even if that is the finding it won't happen until after this years tournament.

Nice the team will be in the discussion.

I think that's the case, they'll be eligible until the NCAA finds something against the appeal.

isn't that something that we all already knew, it's just Sleepy Joe Lombardi that just found out?

There's never been an official statement from the NCAA (and still isn't one), but we all understood that to be the case.

Well, we all knew OSU would take legal action if they weren't deemed eligible, but this is the NCAA saying they're eligible until the appeals process is over. Technically they were still ineligible until this point.
