Gundy: Spencer Sanders Out of COVID Protocols and Available for Tulsa Game

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State was without starting quarterback Spencer Sanders in the game against Missouri State, as the redshirt junior spent last week in COVID protocols.

We’ve been saying on Pokes Report for the past week Sanders would be back for the Tulsa game. Well, Mike Gundy confirmed it Thursday afternoon on the Orange Power Pod.

"Spencer's looked the same as he's always looked; he's out of protocol and has practiced well this week," Gundy said. "He was able to practice throughout the week and feels good. I saw him today, seems to be doing really well. I'm excited about him getting out there and seeing what he can bring to the table."

Shane Illingworth got the nod against Missouri State, putting up 315 yards on 22-of-40 passing with one touchdown and interception apiece.

Sanders is coming off a strong finish to the 2020 season in which he threw for 305 yards and four touchdowns in the Cheez-It Bowl win over Miami. Reports throughout the spring and summer is Sanders had the best offseason during his time in Stillwater. This is the first time he’s had the same quarterback coach and offensive coordinator during his time here, which helps eliminate any inconsistencies in his game.

During his past two seasons, Sanders has completed 62.8% of his passes for 4,072 yards and 30 touchdowns and 19 interceptions. In the 20 games he’s played in, he’s also carried the ball 240 times for 897 yards and four touchdowns.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
and the Sanders legend continues to grow!!! now he threw for 304 TDs in one game... LOL... good one, Zach

now that's funny. (heck, I remember one game that he completed a pass to himself for 2 touchdowns!)

I hope he does well, I'm wondering about his breathing ability coming off of a respiratory illness.

Did Sanders have Covid or just come in contact with a person with Covid?

The only thing we were ever told was he was out due to COVID protocols. Not sure if he ever had it or was just exposed.

If he had it, that might explain only 62 yards in 10 carries. Whatever else this disease may do, it for sure zaps your energy! Praying for full strength this Saturday for him.
Thanks.
