Cowgirls Finish Non Conference Schedule with Win Over Weber State
STILLWATER - Oklahoma State posted its second win of the weekend Sunday afternoon with a 1-0 triumph against Weber State at Neal Patterson Stadium in the final non-conference game of the season for the Cowgirls. OSU improved to 5-3-1 with the win and will look to carry the momentum of back-to-back wins into Big 12 Conference play next week. Weber State falls to 3-5-0 on the year.
The Cowgirls once again dominated possession in this one and outshot Weber State 16-5, with four of OSU's shots coming on goal, while owning a 12-2 advantage on corner kicks. The only score of the match came from Gabriella Coleman.
In goal, freshman Evie Vitali completed her second-straight shutout and fifth of the season with one save against the Wildcats, a key diving stop in the 77th minute that kept the OSU lead intact.
Coleman's goal occurred just 23 seconds into the second half. Olyvia Dowell found Hannah Webb open on the left side of the box, and Webb fired a shot that WSU goalkeeper Mekell Moss got her fingertips on before the ball careened off the right post. The ball traveled directly to Coleman, who found the back of the net with her right foot to put the Cowgirls on top.
The goal was Coleman's third of the season, while Webb notched her first assist of the year
The Cowgirls' next matchup is Thursday at 7 p.m. against Baylor at Neal Patterson Stadium in the Big 12 opener for both teams; OSU will conclude the conference opening weekend with Kansas on Sunday.
