STILLWATER – Late-game heroics from Cade Cunningham earned the Oklahoma State star freshman his second consecutive Big 12 Newcomer of the Week award.
Cunningham scored a career-high 29 points in the win over Oral Roberts on Tuesday night, and posted OSU’s final 12 points on 3-of-3 shooting in the game’s last 91 seconds. On Saturday, Cunningham hit the game-winning 3-pointer at Wichita State with 9.8 remaining and finished with 10 points, 6 boards and 3 assists.
The Cowboy standout averaged 19.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.0 blocks per game on the week, and was a combined 4-of-5 from the floor in the closing 2 minutes of the two contests.
This marks back-to-back Big 12 weekly awards for Cunningham. This is the eighth time an OSU player has won back-to-back weekly honors from the league, and the first since Jawun Evans in January of 2016.
This is the sixth Big 12 weekly award under head coach Mike Boynton, and this marks the 79th time a Cowboy has been named Big 12 Player or Newcomer of the Week in league history.
Cunningham and the Cowboys begin Big 12 play on Wednesday night at 6 p.m. against TCU. The Horned Frogs feature the Big 12 Player of the Week in guard RJ Nembhard.
