Ry Schneider Named a Semifinalist for the Burlsworth Trophy

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State center Ry Schneider is one of 10 national semifinalists for the 2020 Burlsworth Trophy, announced Tuesday by the trophy’s selection committee.

Schneider is the only Big 12 player and one of three offensive linemen listed as a semifinalist for the honor, which is awarded annually to the most outstanding football player in America who began his career as a walk-on.

A Minco, Oklahoma native, Schneider is a lifelong Oklahoma State fan who chose to pass on several lower-level scholarship offers to walk-on at OSU and pursue his dream of playing for the Cowboys.

After three years of development in the program, Schneider earned a consistent role in the rotation on the offensive line and was awarded a scholarship prior to his redshirt junior season in 2019. Schneider played in 12 games that season and started five times, playing both at center and guard as he helped the Cowboy offense average 229.6 rushing yards per game.

In 2020, Schneider has become one of the key leaders for the Cowboy offense. He is the only player on the offensive line to start every game at the same position this season, and has helped pave the way for four different Cowboy running backs to turn in 100-yard rushing games so far.

The Burlsworth Trophy selection committee will announce three finalists on Dec. 22. Finalists will be honored and the winner of the 2020 Burlsworth Trophy will be announced on Jan. 4 at a virtual ceremony.
