Malcolm Rodriguez Becomes First All-American Linebacker at Oklahoma State Since 1981
STILLWATER – For the first time since 1981, an Oklahoma State linebacker has been named an All-American. On Friday, the Football Writers Association of American named Malcolm Rodriguez to its second team All-America list.
With the honor, Rodriguez became just the fourth linebacker in program history to earn the distinction, joining Cleveland Vann (1983), John Corker (1978) and Ricky Young (1981). He also became the 25th Cowboy since the 2008 season to earn All-America status by an NCAA-recognized organization and it marks the fifth-consecutive season a Cowboy has earned All-America honors.
Malcolm was also named an All-American by ESPN, USA Today, The Athletic and CBS Sports, with several other organizations announced their All-America teams in the coming days.
This was a huge season for Rodriguez as he led the team and the Big 12 in total tackles with 119, while helping lead the Cowboy defense nationally in both sacks and tackles for loss. He finished the season with 15 tackles for loss, three sacks, four forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
Following the season, Rodriguez earned First Team All-Big 12 honors by both the coaches and the Associated Press, marking his third-straight season earning All-Big 12 honors.
Pokes Report will continue to keep tabs on All-America honors and will update the list should Malcolm receive any other nominations in the coming days.
