Tanner McCalister Most Recent Cowboy To Enter Transfer Portal

Oklahoma State will take another hit with the transfer portal as multiple sources have claimed that starting Cowboy defensive back Tanner McCalister intends to transfer.

Pokes Report has confirmed the news of McCalister’s intentions to transfer with Tanner himself. He joins running back Dezmon Jackson, defensive tackle Jayden Jernigan and offensive lineman Hunter Anthony.

McCalister is the biggest hit out of the group to announce transfers as the safety out of Rockwall (TX) Heath has been responsible for 119 tackles, 11 pass breakups, and one interception in his career. He has been a staple member of the secondary for the Cowboys in the past two seasons.

This was originally scheduled to be McCalister’s senior and final season in Stillwater, but COVID-19 allows him another year of eligibility.

Pokes Report spoke with Tanner, and he commented on his intentions to enter the portal:

“It’s just a case of me seeing if there is anything better for me in my final year,” McCalister said. “It’s nothing with OSU. I love OSU and everything is good. I talked to my position coach and I’m just seeing what is possibly out there for me and I will discuss it with my family.”

How much of this type of thing where you have a STARTER entering the portal is tied back to this NIL stuff. I said in another post that the Jetnigan situation didn't smell right! I can understand Anthony and Jackson who seek to be starters.

I am not sure if NIL related things are a factor here or part of their decision. I think those kinds of things will take time to figure out in regards to specific instances. Jernigan said he still may return to OSU who knows.

Marshall. I have a lot of respect for you and the work you do, but I will tell you right now when this information about
a player entering the portal first gets reported by a University of Texas fan site, that doesn't pass any ki,d of smell test to me.

Joe in some capacities you may be correct because tampering does happen with outside schools getting players to transfer. But the reporter who put it out there, Mike Roach, is also very connected in the DFW area, which is where Jayden ia from. His father is also very involved so it would not surprise me if he informed him. I am fully aware that there is tampering that takes place but we probably will not know for a while if that was the case (ie. he goes to Texas).

Just fishing for some money. Shoot coaches do it. Value is high see who will pay. Sucks he could leave but this is the world we live in now. Also dude has given us his time. He is a hell of a player.

This is the wave of the future... what are we doing to be pro-active, protect our best players from being poached and more importantly what are we doing to address the importance of NIL programs in future recruiting efforts. Unfortunately, can't just bury our heads in the sand and hope that we can just recruit to our "Cowboy Culture." Gundy, AD and oSu President need to have some discussions and formulate some coherent plans.

Osu has been prepping for this for awhile. We have partnered with a company already that helps with nil. Donors and or businesses have to help with that. The school can't just hand out money to players. So we can still definitely recruit to cowboy culture because that is the foundation of our football program.

GOODBYE AND GOOD LUCK UNLESS YOU SHOW UP ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE BALL. NCAA FOOTBALL IS SWIRLING IN THE TOILET WITH ALL THAT IS GOING ON WITH COACHES SALARY $$$$, TRANSFER PORTAL, NIL $$$, AND THE INSTITUTION BEING RUN BY ????....SEEMS LIKE NO ONE. TOTO, I'VE A FEELING WE'RE NOT IN KANSAS ANYMORE........NEXT SAFETY UP!!!..GO POKES!!!

Will McCalister play in Fiesta Bowl? I would doubt it, but heard some chatter he might?

So, is this where we are at now? After every season, every player just put your name in the portal to see what school will be highest bidder??? Fun times. Good for them.

Interesting how two Ohio State websites are talking about Tanner McAlister being a prime target for ybeir needs at safety because there play at that position was substandard. Eleven Warriors and Bucknuts are the two sites reprting this, so they not only hire away Knowles bit may also get the benefit of a two year starter from one of the top defenses of 2021
