STILLWATER – Oklahoma State freshman edge rusher, Collin Oliver, continues to pick up national recognition as he was tabbed just one of three finalists for the FWAA Freshman of the Year Award, as announced by the Football Writers Association of America Wednesday morning.

Not only was he just one of three freshmen, but Oliver is also the only defensive player listed, joining Ohio State quarterback CJ Stroud and Georgia tight end Brock Bowers.

Oliver was tabbed a unanimous choice for Big 12 Defensive Freshman of the Year, as well as picked up several All-America honors, including ESPN, 247Sports and Pro Football Focus. He was also tabbed a semifinalist for the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award.

He finished the season with 28 total tackles, 15.0 tackles for loss and 11.5 sacks, with still the Fiesta Bowl left to be played on Jan. 1. His sack total ranks seventh among all FBS players, he leads the Big 12, as well as all FBS freshmen. His 15.0 tackles for loss also leads all Power Five freshmen.

According to Oklahoma State Athletics Media Relations, Oliver broke the freshman sack record, which was set by Rodney Harding back in 1981 with 9.0. He currently sits seventh all-time in school history.

The winner of the FWAA Freshman of the Year Award will be announced in January 2022.
