Game Flow

  • Oklahoma State was able to jump out to a 23-16 lead with a 13-3 run to force a Kansas State timeout with 7:17 left in the half.
  • The Wildcats answered the Cowboy run with an 8-1 run of their own to reclaim a 28-26 lead at the 4-minute mark. Although Kansas State answered, OSU still took a 37-35 advantage into the break following back-to-back three pointers from Woody Newton and Bryce WIlliams to reclaim the lead. 
  • OSU was able to maintain its distance for most of the second half but Kansas State fought back to tie the game at 66-66 with less than a minute to play to force the game into overtime.
  • During a back-and-forth overtime, Bryce Thompson hit back-to-back threes for the Cowboys to propel them to a three point lead with under a minute to play but, Kansas State’s Nijel Pack was fouled on a three-point attempt and tied the game from the line with 11 seconds remaining.
  • Avery Anderson III came in clutch for the Cowboys as he drilled a pull-up three point shot with less than 4 seconds left in the game to secure the 82-79 victory. 

Game Notes 

  • Oklahoma State shot 52 percent from the field on Saturday, which marked the highest field goal percentage for the Cowboys in Big 12 play. The Cowboys are also shooting 47.3 percent from the floor over their past eight games well above their season average of 43.8 percent.
  • Bryce Thompson led the way for the Cowboys down the stretch, scoring 15 of his 23 points in the second half and in overtime. It was his third-straight game posting double-figures for OSU and the third time this season he has scored at least 20 points.
  • Thompson’s 23 points also became his new career-high. His previous career high came against the Wildcats earlier in the season when he scored 22 in Manhattan.  
  • Woody Newton and Kalib Boone combined for 20 points off the bench with Newton scoring a career-high nine points and Boone with 11. 
  • During the first half Cowboy run, Oklahoma State hit eight-straight shots at one point. OSU also finished the half hitting 12 of its last fifteen shots from the floor.
  • The Cowboys also won the bench battle as a team outscoring the Kansas State bench 25-16.
  • Avery Anderson III recorded 20 points for the fourth time this year to reach double figures for the fourth-straight game. It marked his season high for consecutive games with 10 or more points. 
  • Oklahoma State dominated in the paint once again, as it outscored KSU 30-22. It marked the 20th time in 26 games OSU has scored more than its foe in the paint.
  • The win brought the Cowboys to 3-1 on the season in overtime games. Mike Boynton also became 9-2 in overtime games during his head coaching career. 
  • Bryce Williams recorded a career best 8 assists in the win over Kansas State on Saturday. 
  • The Cowboys shot well from three shooting 41 percent from deep on 9-22 shooting. Coming into the game Kansas State ranked fourth nationally and first in the Big 12 in 3 point defense only allowing their opponents to shoot 27.3 percent from three. 

Oklahoma State’s Win…

  • Improved the Cowboys to 13-13 heading into their final four games of the year. 
  • Tied the season series at 1-1 between OSU and Kansas State. 
  • Was OSU's fifth in its last six games in the series against the Wildcats.

Team Streaks

  • OSU has made at least one three-pointer in 723 consecutive games dating back to Jan. 13, 2001, which is the 24th longest current streak in college basketball.
  • Isaac Likekele has recorded a rebound in 119-straight games dating back to his freshman year. 
  • Avery Anderson III has reached double figures in scoring four-straight games after the Kansas State game on Saturday, which marked a season high for consecutive games with 10 or more points for him.
