Donovan Williams Enters Transfer Portal

STILLWATER – Transfer season is officially upon us. Less than 72 hours after Oklahoma State’s final game of the season, sophomore guard Donovan Williams announced he was entering the transfer portal.

A guard out of North Star High School in Lincoln, NE, Williams played in just nine games this past season following missing nearly all of his freshman season due to a significant knee injury, the same knee he injured going into his senior year of high school.

During those nine games, Williams averaged just 3.1 points and 1.6 rebounds per game.

His performance in the season opener against UT Arlington was the best of his collegiate career as he posted seven points on 1-of-5 shooting from the floor, 4-of-4 from the free throw line, with four rebounds.

Williams was tabbed Mr. Basketball in the state of Nebraska following a successful senior season. In a shortened senior season, Williams averaged 28.3 points and 8.1 rebounds in just 14 games. He was previously committed to Nebraska, but Williams decommitted in December 2019 after a successful ACL rehab.

With Bryce Williams, and most likely Isaac Likekele, done after this season, that’s two guard spots Mike Boynton and Co. will have to fill during the offseason. They’ve already signed Quion Williams, a guard out of Mansfield (TX) Legacy in the 2022 class, so that makes up for one of the three open guard spots heading into the offseason.

I hope this is not just the first in a long list of kids getting the heck out of dodge.
