STILLWATER – Big news out of Stillwater as Oklahoma State just landed the commitment of talented transfer guard, John-Michael Wright.

Wright is a 6-0, 186-pound transfer guard out of High Point University out of Fayetteville, N.C.

This past season as a junior, Wright played in and started 32 games for the Panthers and averaged an impressive 18.4 points a game on 41% shooting from the floor. He shot 36% from 3-point range, making 65 of 179 attempts. He dished out 108 assists on the season, 3.4 assists a game, while recording 32 steals and averaging 4.4 rebounds a contest.

Was towards the top of the stat sheet for nearly every single offensive category this past season: 18.4 points a game and 588 points on the season, was second on the team with 2.0 made 3-pointers a game, averaged 3.4 assists per game.

Following the season, Wright picked up his second First Team Big South Conference honor.

Those numbers are down just a bit from his sophomore season, when he averaged 20.7 points a game on 42% shooting from the field. He was named to the Big South Conference First Team following his sophomore season, while leading the Panthers in scoring (20.1 ppg), three pointers made (48) and free throw percentage (.779) on the season.

He was electric his freshman season as well as he was named to the Big South All-Freshman Team and Big South All-Conference honorable mention after averaging 14.2 points a game.

This is a big pick up for Mike Boynton and Co., not just because of Wright’s production on the court. As of Friday evening, the Cowboys had five players enter the transfer portal.

Keylan Boone and Donovan Williams both committed to Pacific, Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe committed to Georgia, Isaac Likekele entered as a grad transfer and Rondel Walker has yet to announce but is in the portal. Bryce Williams graduated this past spring and Avery Anderson III, while there’s still a chance he returns, has entered his name into the NBA Draft process.

Scholarship players set to return next season is Bryce Thompson, Chris Harris, Kalib Boone, Tyreek Smith, Woody Newton, Bernard Kouma and Moussa Cisse, along with incoming freshman guard Quion Williams and now transfer John-Michael Wright.

So is he a point guard that can shoot, or another shooting guard that can get by at pg?

I'm not sure about the level of competition, but for comparison, Likekele had 102 assists last season, 3.4/game

Williams had 76, Anderson 68, Walker 33, Thompson 32 (assists)

Jawun Evans had 204 assists in 16-17 season

That pretty much sums it up right there!
