Oklahoma State Lands 2023 Waco (TX) Connally DB Jelani McDonald
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State has added another piece to the puzzle as Jelani McDonald took to Twitter Friday evening to announce his commitment.
McDonald is a 6-2, 190-pound athlete out of Waco (TX) Connally. He marks the 10th overall commitment in the 2023 class for the Cowboys and the sixth on the defensive side of the ball.
He currently holds offers from OSU, Arkansas, Colorado State, SMU and Texas Tech.
While he’s listed as an athlete because he’s a dual-threat quarterback for Connally, he’s being recruited as a corner by the Cowboys. He didn’t play a defensive role for the Cadets this past season, but he’s expected to play on that side of the ball this upcoming season as a senior.
In fact, Texas Football has McDonald listed as one of the top defensive back prospects in the 2023 class.
This past season as a junior for Connally, McDonald threw for 865 yards and nine touchdowns, while rushing for 576 yards and six touchdowns.
As you can see from his highlight video, McDonald is an athletic and fast prospect. He’s also a basketball player for the Cadets, in which he averaged 14 points, five rebounds, two assists and one block per game as a junior, which earned him Texas District 18-4A MVP honors. So, that only adds to his agility, athleticism and explosiveness.
McDonald’s recruiting process with Oklahoma State has been a rather quick one. He received an offer from Tim Duffie after being on campus in early March. He was on campus a few months later for an official visit in early June and committed less than a month later.
