STILLWATER – An Oklahoma State player has been named to a third preseason watch list in as many days with running back Dominic Richardson being named to the Doak Walker Award watch list.
Richardson is one of 73 players, including seven from the Big 12, named to the watch list for this award, which is given annually to the best running back in the FBS by the PxC SMU Athletic Forum.
This will mark the first year of Richardson’s career at Oklahoma State where he’ll be the featured back, playing behind Chuba Hubbard, LD Brown and Dez Jackson his freshman season, then behind Jaylen Warren this past season.
Richardson has played in 21 games during his time with the Pokes, including seeing playing time in all 14 games this past season. He recorded 79 carries for 373 yards and four touchdowns.
He’s had two breakout games in his collegiate career, one coming during each of his two seasons. He rushed for a career-high 174 yards and three touchdowns his freshman season against Baylor, then posted a sophomore season-high 134 yards and two touchdowns against TCU this past season.
Richardson’s game against TCU this past season was spectacular as he carried the ball only 12 times, averaging more than 11 yards per carry.
10 semifinalists will be named in November by the PcX SMU Athletic Forum Board of Directors, shortly followed by three finalists being announced. The Doak Walker Award National Selection Committee will cast a second vote in December to determine who this year’s recipient will be, which will be announced during The Home Depot College Football Awards show on ESPN on December 8.
