Game Flow

  • Kalib Boone scored the first bucket for the Cowboys for the 10th time this season to tie the game at two.
  • Iowa State took a 27-11 lead into the under-eight media timeout. Kalib Boone topped the Cowboys with five points.
  • A quick 7-0 run powered by a deep three from Woody Newton brought the Cowboys within nine of the Cyclones, 27-18 with six minutes left in the first half.
  • Three-straight field goals extended the run to 12-4 in favor of the Pokes, bringing the margin to eight points with 3:54 to play in the half.
  • Nine first-half points from Kalib Boone kept the Cowboys in the contest, trailing at half 35-25.
  • Back-to-back triples by Avery Anderson III and Caleb Asberry got the Cowboys rolling in the second half, closing in on the Cyclones lead at 43-37.
  • The Cowboys started the second half 4-of-6 from three-point range, including two from John-Michael Wright, as the Pokes brought the lead down to just two points with 13:52 left to play.
  • Another jumper from John-Michael Wright tied the game for the Cowboys at 45 with 12 minutes to play, capping off a 20-10 run from the Pokes to open the half.
  • Two free-throws from Kalib Boone made the score 54-53 in favor of the Cyclones with 3:48 left to play. 
  • Two more clutch free-throws, this time from Anderson, gave OSU its first lead of the game at 55-54 with three minutes remaining.
  • Kalib Boone’s thunderous dunk extended the lead to three for the Pokes, but Iowa State instantly returned the favor with a three-pointer to tie it back up before Avery Anderson III answered with a layup of his own to take back the lead. One minute remaining, 59-57, Cowboys lead.
  • After Newton’s free throw, the Cowboys led by two with three seconds left and Iowa State’s last-second heave missed to give OSU its first ranked win of the season, 61-59.

Game Notes 

  • Head coach Mike Boynton went with Avery Anderson III, Bryce Thompson, John-Michael Wright, Kalib Boone and Woody Newton as the starting-five for the second-straight game.
  • The Cowboys 16-point comeback victory is the largest come-from-behind victory since a 16-point comeback against Texas Tech in Feb. 2009.
  • After reaching the 1,000 career-point milestone in the Cowboys’ previous game, Avery Anderson III passed Isaac Likekele, Joey Graham, Marshall Moses, K.C. Kincaide and Tony Allen to move into 40th place on Oklahoma State’s scoring list. Anderson tied his season-high with 18 points on 5-of-9 from the field and 2-for-3 from three-point range.
  • Anderson also set a career-high with three blocked shots on Saturday to go along with his five assists and three rebounds.
  • Kalib Boone continues to dominate the paint on both sides of the floor, scoring 13 points to up his average to 12.4 points per game in conference play.
  • Moussa Cisse made his biggest impact since returning from injury, snagging a block, a steal and three rebounds, but more importantly playing solid interior defense on the Cyclones.
  • The Cowboys overcame a 10-point halftime deficit to capture the victory. The 10-point deficit is the largest halftime deficit overcome by OSU this season.
  • OSU has held 16 of its 19 opponents to 35 percent shooting or less from the three-point line, and 11 of 18 have shot less than 30 percent.
  • Oklahoma State improved to 8-2 on the season when making more three-pointers than its opponent.

  • Improved the Cowboys to 71-67 all-time in the Iowa State series, which dates back to 1927.
  • Is Oklahoma State’s second-straight in the series between the two schools.
