Game Flow

  • Kalib Boone scored the Cowboys’ first bucket of the night with a smooth post-move, immediately followed by a Bryce Thompson corner three to tie the game at five.
  • Both teams got off to hot starts on the offensive end as the Jayhawks took an 11-9 lead into the first media timeout with 15:32 left in the first half.
  • OSU made seven of eight shots from the 18:00 mark to the 12:00 mark, capped by a John-Michael Wright three-pointer to give the Pokes a 19-16 lead.
  • In the first 11 minutes of the game, Bryce Thompson scored 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting to lead the Cowboys, taking a 23-20 lead.
  • Kalib Boone and Bryce Thompson combined to score 28 of the Cowboys first 32 points, with 14 each. OSU trailed 33-32 with Kalib Boone headed to the free-throw line after the timeout. 3:54 left to play.
  • John Michael-Wright’s second three extended the Cowboys lead to four with under two minutes to play until the halftime break.
  • Back-to-back threes from Kansas gave the Jayhawks the halftime lead, 39-37. Oklahoma State shot 50 percent from the three-point line and outrebounded Kansas 19-to-13.

  • The Cowboys made eight of its 16 field goals to start the second half, but still trailed the Jayhawks 70-61 with 6:49 to play.
  • Kalib Boone tied his career-high of 25 points with 4:30 left, but the Cowboys trailed 76-66.

Game Notes

  • Head coach Mike Boynton went with Caleb Asberry, Bryce Thompson, John-Michael Wright, Kalib Boone and Woody Newton as the starting-five for the fourth-straight game. The Cowboys are 7-2 since inserting Newton as a starter, and 3-1 since Caleb Asberry has been inserted.
  • Kalib Boone continues to dominate the paint on both sides of the floor, scoring a career-high 27 points while grabbing nine rebounds, shooting a stellar 10-of-15 from the field.
  • Boone has recorded 20 points or more in three games this season, including two of his last four games.
  • Boone remains the Cowboys’ all-time leader in field goal percentage in a career at 60 percent. At his current pace, Boone will become the first Cowboy to surpass the 60 percent mark in two separate seasons.
  • Bryce Thompson came out of the gates scorching hot, making a slew of mid-range jumpers on his way to 17 points, three assists and two rebounds.
  • In two games against Kansas this season, Thompson has recorded 40 points on 8-of-15 from three. 
  • John-Michael Wright provided a huge shooting boost, scoring 18 points, the fifth time he has scored 17 or more points in Big 12 play. Wright also added two rebounds and two assists while knocking down a season-high 6-of-10 three-pointers.
  • Wright has made at least three three-pointers in back-to-back games, and has made three in seven games this season. Wright is shooting 59 percent from three-point range in his last four games.
  • OSU has found success on the offensive end lately, scoring 30 or more points in 13 of its last 15 halves of basketball. 
  • As a team, the Cowboys have reached at least three blocks in 24 of 26 games this season. OSU leads the Big 12 with 5.4 blocked shots per game, which ranks 14th in the country.
