Oklahoma State Headed to Youngstown State as No. 1 Overall Seed in NIT

STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State Cowboys have been tabbed the No. 1 overall seed in the NIT on Sunday evening after failing to reach the NCAA tournament earlier in the day.

They’ll be facing Youngstown State on Wednesday out on the road. OSU is the host school for the NCAA Wrestling Championships in Tulsa this week, so the athletic department didn’t put in a bid to host.

Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT and will be streamed on ESPN+.

The Penguins went 24-9 overall this season and finished the year as the Horizon League regular season champs, in which they went 15-5 in conference play. They also had an impressive 14-2 home record this season.

They lost a close one at Notre Dame early in the season, 88-81, and had a common opponent with the Pokes, Oakland, in which they won both games, 85-69 on the road and 77-73 at home.

The Cowboys finished the 2022-23 season with an 18-15 overall record and an 8-10 record in conference play, with a couple of very disappointing losses in the non-conference that really hurt their NCAA chances.

It was a rough start to conference play, but the Pokes rattled off seven out of eight wins, including a four-game win streak that included ranked wins over Iowa State and TCU.

The Cowboys also completed season sweeps of OU and the Cyclones, as well as a third win over the Sooners which came in the Big 12 tournament.
