Depth Chart For Arizona State Not Much Different From Week 1

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State football released the depth chart for the upcoming road game against Arizona State.

This week’s depth chart looks fairly similar to the season opener, but there are potentially a few changes that could pop up come game day. Lineback Justin Wright took to social media Sunday evening to announce an injury he sustained against Central Arkansas isn’t in fact a season-ending injury and that he’ll be back in week five.

Mike Gundy told the media Monday he hadn’t seen the post from Wright, but was told by the doctors the injury wasn’t as serious as they had originally thought.

The biggest question moving forward is who the starting quarterback is going to be and how much each guy will play. Gundy said they still haven’t made a decision, but it will be based on how each plays during the week.

Gundy also updated Preston Wilson’s situation and said the lineman will make the trip to the desert. However, that answer leaves a lot up to interpretation on whether or not Wilson will suit up and play.

While Jake Springfield suffered a foot/lower leg injury against UCA, his status moving forward is questionable, but the injury isn’t believed to be serious.

I have a question, Cooper (RS SR) is listed as the 2 behind Birmingham. He was listed as the 2 behind him for week 1 as well. Did anyone ask why Cooper went in for Springfield instead of the two listed as backups (Both are RS FR)?

Good question. I assumed it was simply a matter of moving the experienced Senior to the other tackle spot so as to not play Freshmen, but it would be nice to know for sure. I wasn't impressed with Cooper, so I'm all for playing the Freshmen if they're more talented and have some freaking attitude!

it's pretty typical to go into a season with 7 guys that can play, very few teams have a complete 2-deep where they can just rotate the 1st and 2nd lines.

Usually at the start of the season there are the 5 starters, a backup tackle a backup guard and they just move them around to where they are needed.

We had a guard out and a tackle go out, so the 2 most prepared backups were inserted.

It's sort of cheesy to 2nd guess the decisions "after the fact", but you really don't know for certain until you put somebody in. You/we/me have no idea whether the UNLV kid or the Freshman would have performed any better, since we hadn't seen any of them play (including the conference all American Dalton)

To be clear, I did not ask the question with the intent of second-guessing a decision. That is not my style. I apologize if you interpreted it that way. My tag says "V"eteran but I am just a rookie at this. These guys ask tons of questions at pressers. I was just curious if that was asked. Just an observation not intended to be critical or judgemental. Have a great day!! Go Pokes!!

I did not mean to call you out, or imply that your question was the subject of my response...

I said "you/we/me" as an indication of all of us inclusively, not you specifically.

nothing against you personally, but frankly, I think Gundy would tear somebody's freaking head off if they asked him why he substituted one player over another at a presser (aside from the QB battle, which he had already said is undecided and all three would play)

Gunnar deserves to start this week but I'm not sure Mike will ever start him cause he doesn't want to show favoritism, because he already went from QB2 to QB3 last year when Rangel jumped him to start when Sanders got hurt. I will admit I was not high on Gunnar after seeing him play some games at Stilly, but he's improved his foot speed quite a bit. His arm still is not the strongest of the three by quite some distance.

And he did benefit from UCA last week as their defense was tired by the time he got in there but he clearly outplayed both Rangel and Bowman. Put him in there from the start to see how he does por favor!

Gunnar started the Iowa State game last season and got the win. Sanders came off the bench for the last drive, but I think Coach panicked by inserting Sanders, and that Gunnar could have lead the team to the unassisted win - but we will never know.

Cowboys Rally Past Iowa State, 20-14
It was Gundy's first career start. The son of Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy had his moments, but he was benched after throwing an interception. (late in the 4th quarter)

Rangel had thrown 2 INTs the prior week against Kansas, and the team had 4 TOs in the game. Gunnar started the next week against ISU and got the win.

Anybody know why we split the punts when Wes Pahl was so good?
