Oklahoma State Drops to 0-5 in Big 12 Play With 70-66 Loss to Kansas State

Oklahoma State made just one basket in the final seven and a half minutes of the 70-66 road loss to Kansas State.

With the loss, the Cowboys drop to 0-5 to start Big 12 play and 8-10 overall on the season.

The Cowboys had a chance to win the game in the final minute as point guard Javon Small hit a layup to tie the game at 66 with :53 remaining in the game. However, in the game was lost in the final 30 seconds as Quion Williams turned the ball over with 11 seconds with the Pokes trailing 68-66. Following the clock-stopping foul by Small, the Wildcats went up by four-points, leading to a desperation three by Bryce Thompson, who finished the game going just 1-of-6 from 3-point range.

It was freshman Eric Dailey Jr. who led the way for the Pokes with 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the field. John-Michael Wright and Small each had 11 points, Small with eight rebounds and five assists to lead the team.

The Cowboys shot 42% from the field, going 22-of-53 from the field and 33% from 3-point range on 9-of-27 shooting. Both teams recorded 17 turnovers, with the Pokes out-rebounding the Wildcats 31-25. They did, however, shoot just 65% from the free throw line going just 13-of-20 from the line.

They were also outscored 32-18 in the paint, with freshman Brandon Garrison scoring just five points and playing just 16 minutes. 

Things don’t get any easier for the Pokes as they’ll play host to TCU on Tuesday evening and then West Virginia on Saturday, Jan. 27.
