STILLWATER – Two weeks after sustaining a shoulder injury in the 83-54 loss to Kansas, Oklahoma State senior guard Bryce Thompson announced on Instagram a successful surgery to repair a torn labrum.

“Thank you for your prayers and the love and support you’ve shown me since my injury,” the post from Feb. 13 starts. “It means the world to me. Last week I had surgery to repair a torn labrum. The procedure went well, and I am back home now in Tulsa recovering. I look forward to attacking my rehab over the coming weeks and getting back on the court as soon as possible.”

Thompson was injured early in the first half of the KU game when he made contact with Hunter Dickinson while going up for a layup.

It was certainly possible Thompson was going to miss the remainder of the season when Cowboys’ head coach Mike Boynton made the injury announcement a few weeks ago, but now it seems like a guarantee as the minimum recovery time for a surgically repaired labrum is about six to eight weeks. It could take upwards of three to four months to fully heal.

With the last game of the regular season taking place on March 9th against BYU, and surgery taking place last week, it’s unlikely Thompson will make a return this season.

“Hate it for him, individually, a kid that’s really one of the hardest-working kids I’ve every been around,” Boynton said two weeks ago. “[Bryce] really cares about this school, this program. Obviously being an in-state kid, wanted to represent this program.”

The Cowboys will play host to BYU this coming Saturday, Feb. 17, with a 1 p.m. CT tipoff on ESPN+.
