Cowboy Hoops Opponent Preview: Pokes on the Road Against Cincinnati

STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State Cowboy basketball team is looking to make it two wins in a row tonight as they face Cincinnati on the road. Should the Pokes find a way to win, they’ll move to 4-9 in Big 12 play and 12-14 overall on the season.

As for the Bearcats, they’re currently 16-9 overall and 5-7 in Big 12 play. 

The Cowboys are coming off an impressive 93-83 home win over No. 19 BYU this past weekend, while the Bearcats are fresh off a 76-74 road win over UCF. 

Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT and will be streamed on ESPN+.

The Bearcats have played some really close games against some good teams this season. They beat then-No. 12 BYU in Provo, UT, 71-60, lost to then-No. 25 Texas in Cincy, 74-73, lost to then-No. 14 Baylor 62-59 in Waco and beat then-No. 19 TCU in Cincy, 81-77. They also beat then-No. 15 Texas Tech 75-72 in Lubbock and lost to then-No. 5 Houston in Cincy, 67-62.

As a team, the Bearcats are averaging nearly 76 points per game on 44% shooting from the field, while holding opponents to to just 67 points per game. They’re also shooting 32% from 3-point range and 69% from the free throw line. They’re bringing down just 9.4 rebounds per game and turning the ball over 12 times, while forcing nearly 12 on the other end.

They’re led by Dan Skillings Jr., who’s averaging 12.3 points per game on 42%shooting from the field, 32% from 3-point range and 66% from the free throw line. He’s third on the stat sheet in rebounds with 6.2 per game and has turned the ball over 30 times on the season to just 18 steals.

In conference play, Skillings remains the leading scorer with 13.5 points per game and is at 5.8 rebounds per game.

Next on the stat sheet in conference play is junior guard/forward Simas Lukošius, who’s averaging 10.2 points and 3.4 rebounds per game. In terms of rebounding in conference play, Aziz Bandaogo is leading the way with 7.3 per game. He’s averaging 6.6 points on 58% shooting from the field.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
They're pretty tall... 3 forwards that get a lot of minutes - one 7.0, and two at 6-11. Plus a couple of 6-8 guys.

We're going to have to keep the TOs to a minimum, and have a hot outside hand.

I don't see us getting much in the paint, but we really need to work the middle on these guys.

Free throw shooting really helped tonight. With all the turnovers starting the game, I thought "uh oh!" Mike calmed them down coming out of the half and they played an excellent 2nd half of under control, movement offense. with deadly shooting. Garrison has arrived.
