Oklahoma State Crushed by Texas Tech on Senior Night 75-58

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State had one of its worst performances of the past few seasons on Tuesday evening as they were crushed by Texas Tech on Senior Night, 75-58. 

With the loss, the Cowboys moved to 12-18 on the season and moved back into sole possession of last place in the Big 12 with a 4-13 record.

Eric Dailey Jr. led the way in scoring for the Pokes with 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the floor and 2-of-3 from 3-point range. Senior John-Michael Wright finished with 11 points on 3-of-11 shooting from the floor, 3-of-9 from 3-point range. 

The Cowboys shot just 37% from the field for the game, 21% from 3-point range, while the Red Raiders shot 50% from the field and 33% from 3-point range. The Pokes were outrebounded 34-30, committed 17 turnovers leading to 21 points on the other end and were outscored in the paint 40-28. They did, however, have more bench points, 25, than Tech did, 18. They also forced 14 turnovers and scored 17 points.

There was a lot of hope for the Pokes down the stretch following the impressive wins over BYU and Cincinnati, but it’s very apparent now the overtime loss to Oklahoma destroyed any hope this team had as they’ve had two very bad losses in a row, this one, in which they just went through the motions, and the 81-65 drubbing at Texas.

It was an incredibly slow start for the Pokes as they didn’t hit a bucket from the field for nearly the first eight minutes of the game, going 1-for-12 to start the game. The one lone highlight in virtually the entire first half came from freshman Connor Dow. Playing in his first meaningful minutes since Houston on Feb. 6, Dow recorded a steal and an impressive fast break dunk on the other end.

However, Dow recorded a turnover a few plays later, which led to a 3-pointer from Tech’s Pop Isaacs to put the Red Raiders up 25-9 on a 9-0 run.

The Red Raiders shot 48% from the field in the first half, while the Cowboys shot just 21% from the field, a horrible 7% from 3-point range, 1-for-14, and 57% from the free throw line.
