STILLWATER – Oklahoma State introduced its new men’s basketball head coach, Steve Lutz, on Thursday afternoon.

After a near-hour press conference with Dr. Kayse Shrum, athletic director Chad Weiberg and Lutz, Lutz met with the media down in the locker room to discuss a number of topics, including building out his assistant staff, recruiting the current players, as well as high school players, and playing the transfer portal.

“Good players,” Lutz said with a smile of what’s the key to a quick turnaround. ”This ain’t rocket science, you’ve got to do a good job in retaining the guys that are currently on your roster that fit with the way you want to play and are of the right character and have enough talent to get you to where you want to go. Then you’ve also got to fill the roster in with guys that, again, have the requisite talent, but also have the right mentality because obviously you look at this locker room, you’ve got to have the right guys in the locker room. That’s the most important things.”

“I’ve got to make some decisions here,” Lutz said of building his staff. “I’ll meet with maybe some of the guys that were on coach Boynton’s staff. I know some of them from my years of coaching and then just make the best decision for us moving forward. Obviously, I’ve done this a long time and have a lot of people that have worked with me and even worked for me. Just like players, you’ve got to have guys of high character and high moral standard and are going to work extremely, extremely hard to Oklahoma State to where we want to go.”
