STILLWATER – Oklahoma State is in the running to land standout Drake freshman transfer, Kevin Overton. It was announced on Twitter Thursday afternoon.

The Cowboys are listed among Colorado State, Houston, Oklahoma, Texas Tech and West Virginia.

This news comes a few weeks after Drake head coach Darian DeVries was named the head coach at West Virginia. So, it’s possible Overton could follow his former head coach out east, or he might want to play closer to home. Whatever he chooses, other than Colorado State, there definitely seems to be a conference he wants to play in.

Overton, who’s a 6-5, 180-pound guard, is originally out of Oklahoma City, OK, and played his high school ball at Norman North before spending a post-grad year at Sunrise Christian in Wichita, KS.

This past season as a freshman, Overton was really good for the Bulldogs as he started in all 35 games and averaged 11.3 points per game on 44% shooting from the floor, 37% from 3-point range and nearly 80% from the free throw line. He also averaged 3.3 rebounds per game, recorded 38 assists and just 18 turnovers.

Steve Lutz is still looking to piece his roster together as he has eight roster spots he needs to fill and Overton would be a great addition to the roster as he brings not just talent, but good college experience.
