STILLWATER – Oklahoma State head coach Steve Lutz is hosting his first player out of the transfer portal since taking over the program.

According to stories posted on his Instagram account, Florida International guard, Arturo Dean, is currently on campus in Stillwater. He also posted a video of him meeting the coaching staff.

Dean checks in at 5-11, 163-pounds and is coming off an impressive sophomore season with the Panthers in which he led the NCAA in steals with 104 on the season. He also averaged 13.4 points on 42% shooting from the field and 30% from 3-point range. He also had 124 assists, which is impressive, but also had a really high number of turnovers with 114.

He started 31 of 32 games this past season, averaging nearly 29 minutes per game and bringing down 5.1 boards per game.

Last season as a freshman, Dean averaged nearly 12 points per game on 43% shooting from the field, just 19% from 3-point range and 64% from the free throw line. He also recorded 119 assists, 100 turnovers and brought down 4.1 boards per game.

The Cowboys are currently looking for a point guard and most of the numbers Dean posted last season are very promising. 124 assists with 13.4 points per game on 42% shooting, not to mention 100+ steals on the season is exactly what you’re looking for in a point guard. However, 214 turnovers in just two seasons is something that would definitely need addressed. But if you look at Western Kentucky this past season, the most turnovers a player had was 68. So, Lutz knows how to limit turnovers.

Dean would be a very solid addition to the roster and a good pick up for Lutz. He would bring experience to the lineup and obviously plays good defense, something Lutz said is going to be a big focus.
