Steve Lutz Talks About the Two High School Signees In the 2025 Class
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State basketball announced the signing of two recruits out of the 2025 class this week.
Following OSU’s 85-78 win over Southern Illinois, head coach Steve Lutz was asked about the two players who signed with the Pokes this week.
“I’m excited to sign a couple of high school kids; hopefully we can get those guys to stick around for a while and continue to build our program and our culture and have them in the system for a while. Ryan Crotty’s a prolific scorer but he’s not just a one-trick pony. He can put the ball down on the floor, he can rebound the basketball, and he’s going to be a nice fit here because when he catches the basketball, you have to guard him at 26-27 feet, he’s that good of a shooter.
“Then Mekhi (Muh-K-eye) Ragland, he’s gonna be a good player in time. It’s gonna take him a little bit of time, he’s got to work at it and get in better shape and get healthy and all those sorts of things, but he reminds me of a young man we had at Purdue named Trevion Williams. Trevion came in and he really, really worked and got himself into shape. By the end of his career, he was an All-Big Ten player, and he’s still playing overseas making a lot of money. I’m excited about both of them.”
The first player to sign was four-star guard, Ryan Crotty, who checks in at 6-5, 185 pounds out of Miller School in Virginia. Crotty took his official visit to Stillwater back in early September and committed just a few days later.
As for Ragland, he checks in at 6-10 and has played all over the country. He’s the No. 123 overall prospect according to On3, and is out of Sunrise Christian Academy out of Wichita, KS. Before that he played two seasons in Class 7A in Atlanta, Georgia.
“[Ragland’s] got great soft hands, and then he’s big and wide and he seals really, really well, but somebody asked me what his best skill is and it might be his passing. I think he can really pass the basketball, and he’s going to be able to stretch the floor and shoot, he’s just gonna have to be able to get it the pace of the game. Obviously, we play at a certain style, but I think he’s got a great future ahead of him.”
Coach Lutz said the coaching staff is still working on putting the 2025 class together, which will also feature multiple transfers.
