Oklahoma State Set to Start Big 12 Tournament Friday
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State women’s basketball has had a great season so far, finishing the regular season with a 24-5 overall record and a program-best 14-4 in Big 12 play. For their efforts, they’ve finished in third place in the conference and have been rewarded with two extra days off and a Friday start to the Big 12 Conference tournament up in Kansas City.
There are four games in the opening round on Wednesday, with the match-up between No. 14 Texas Tech and No. 11 Kansas at 8 p.m. CT on ESPN+.
The next day, the winner of Tech and Kansas will face No. 6 Utah will also be an 8 p.m. start on ESPN+.
I only mention those two games because the Cowgirls will be facing one of those three opponents on Friday at 8 p.m. on ESPN+.
The Cowgirls have played well this season against these three teams. They fell in the first match up to Kansas in Stillwater back on Jan. 4, 75-66. Up to that point, the Jayhawks had the Cowgirls’ number. Hoyt’s crew went down to Lubbock on Jan. 25 and beat Tech, 71-68, before beating Utah in Salt Lake City on Feb. 18, 68-64.
Then on Sunday, March 2, the Cowgirls exacted their revenge on the Jayhawks up in Lawerence with a 57-51 win to give them their most conference wins in program history. Tenin Magassa was electric with 20 points, 16 rebounds and six blocks.
A 3-1 record against their potential opponents, and an extra two days off, is definitely a benefit for Hoyt and Co.
