Rough Night in Lubbock for Cowgirls as They Drop Double Header to Texas Tech
LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 15/13 Oklahoma State softball team lost both ends of a doubleheader against No. 16/15 Texas Tech Friday at Rocky Johnson Field, dropping game one, 9-0, and game two, 2-0.
The Cowgirls dropped to 15-6 overall and 0-2 in the Big 12, while Texas Tech improved to 20-6 and 2-0 in the league.
Game One – Texas Tech 9, Oklahoma State 0
The Red Raiders got off to a hot start with four runs off two hits in the first inning. Alexa Langeliers singled in Hailey Toney, and Lauren Allred scored off a fielder’s choice. Bailey Lindemuth hit a two-run single to score Raegan Jennings and Langeliers.
Texas Tech added an unearned run in the third to extend the lead to five.
The Red Raiders added another run in the fourth inning with an RBI single from Toney to score Logan Halleman.
Texas Tech ended the game via run rule in the fifth with an RBI double from Jennings and a home run from Lindemuth.
Oklahoma State had three hits and left two on base but were unable to score on All-American pitcher NiJaree Canady.
Katie Kutz took the loss for the Cowgirls and dropped to 7-2, pitching for two innings with three strikeouts and five hits allowed. Canady improved to 8-2.
Game Two – Texas Tech 2, Oklahoma State 0
Similar to the first game, The Red Raiders scored early with two runs in the first inning off an unearned run and a single from Langeliers to score Allred.
Pitcher Ruby Meylan limited the Texas Tech offense in the following three innings with six strikeouts and no runs allowed. Meylan dropped to 8-1 with the loss, finishing with seven strikeouts and six hits allowed in six innings of work.
Canady entered the game in the fifth inning and earned the save after collecting four strikeouts. Chloe Riassetto took the win for Texas Tech and improved to 4-1.
The series finale is set for noon Sunday. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+ and can be heard on the Varsity Network app.
