STILLWATER – Oklahoma State will hit the road for the second round of the NIT as the No. 1 seed in the Dallas Regional, SMU, battled back to beat Northern Iowa, 73-63, on Wednesday evening.

The Cowboys are coming off an 89-79 win over Wichita State on Tuesday.

Tipoff for OSU-SMU is scheduled for 2 p.m. this coming Sunday and will be televised on ESPN2.

Guard B.J. Edwards led the way with 16 points on 7-of-16 shooting, while Chuck Harris and Kario Oquendo each finished with 12 points and Yohan Traore with 11.

It was a one-point game at halftime, with SMU leading 33-32. But it was the final four minutes of the game which decided it in Dallas as UNI didn’t hit a field goal the final 4:10 and went 2-of-11 from the field, which included the final four minutes.

The Cowboys and Ponies faced each other months ago in Stillwater in a charity scrimmage, with the Cowboys coming away with the 89-78 win. Now, that’s a non-consequential game and both teams are lightyears ahead of where they were on Oct. 26.
