Oklahoma State Hosting North Texas Tuesday In NIT Quarterfinals

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State is hosting its second NIT quarterfinals game in Gallagher-Iba Arena in the last two seasons on Tuesday night as the Pokes play host to North Texas.

Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. CT and will be televised on ESPN2.

The Mean Green is the two-seed in the Dallas Regional and is coming off a 65-63 home win over Arkansas State. As for the Cowboys, they went down to Dallas and beat top-seeded SMU, 85-83.

The Cowboys are now back to .500 on the season and just recorded their first back-to-back wins since they beat Tarleton State and ORU back on December 18th and 22nd.

This will be the second time the Cowboys and Mean Green have faced each other in an NIT quarterfinal game in GIA as the Pokes fell to a Grant McCasland and Tylor Perry-led team, 65-59 in overtime. Perry dropped 23 points on the Pokes en route to an NIT championship with a 68-61 win over UAB.

Bryce Thompson is the only player who was on the roster then for the Cowboys and he finished with six points, three rebounds and four assists. Thompson has been a catalyst for the Pokes down the stretch this season as he scored 23 points in the win over Wichita State and 24 points Sunday against SMU.

The Cowboys currently have five more wins than they did last season, while having two more wins out on the road. We’ll have a more in-depth preview on the game tomorrow, but the Cowboys have had a lot of success on the white maple and are 13-3 at home this season.

Isn't the game at North Texas since we're the lower seed?

there is a post in the other thread that includes the X post from OSU BB.

Apparently it is at OSU, and tickets are on sale. (Monday morning)

Yes, that is the way its set, but the NIT sets the home team. My guess is they had small crowds at UNT since the NIT announced the game would be at GIA during the UNT/ASU game.

They need to sell tickets, and we're the better bet so the games in Stillwater. For those of you in town, go out and pull for these Cowboys to avenge that last loss to UNT, and to make it to Indy!

The higher seed is technically supposed to host, but the NCAA takes bids on hosting for the NIT. So, Oklahoma State put in a higher bid than UNT, meaning they/NCAA feels OSU can make more money hosting than UNT.

That's awesome. Got my tickets for tomorrow night and I'm excited to watch the cowboys (in person) one last time this year!

So, found out earlier today UNT has a staff luncheon scheduled for tomorrow and refused to move it, so that's why UNT couldn't host...oof lol.

It's quite amazing that that was the outcome. Still glad they let us have it.

when it's going to cost more to move a function than you would make on hosting a 2nd tier event, then that's what happens. Money.

oh boy..... SMH

it is the major event of the month long campus staff appreciation and recognition. so... one department's event (BB game) did not trump a major campus wide event (staff appreciation luncheon and awards ceremony)

All staff across campus, at Discovery Park and in Frisco are invited to spend their lunch break in the Coliseum in Denton on Wednesday, March 26, for a fajita feast provided by award-winning Verde Catering. Enjoy door prizes and a chance to connect with fellow staff members across campus. If you can't make it, watch the event live stream on YouTube.

The 2025 Staff Appreciation Awards winners will be presented during this event. Learn more about the Staff Appreciation Awards. Please plan to join us and cheer for your colleagues!
Parking will be available in Lot 20 during this event.

That is a good find but still doesn't make sense why both can't happen. Maybe they don't have the man power.

because the gym is packed with tables and catering, the event is scheduled until 1:30, but awards ceremonies always run long, parking lots are packed with staff from the remote campuses....

personnel or not, it would be very expensive, for minimal return.

I'm going to assume that they analyzed it and actually know what they are doing.

regardless, I don't much care why ----- GO POKES!!

No. The awards ceremony is somewhere else. I found out it's because they take the floor up.

I don't claim to know nothing about their activities, someone said there was a conflicting luncheon, but the link above says that luncheon is on Wednesday. The link says the Service Awards is Tuesday night, and the Staff Appreciation and Awards is Wednesday noon.

so who knows. Most likely the luncheon is tomorrow, and with a late game tonight, they didn't feel they had enough time to set up without working all night.

(FYI - "service awards" in most government agencies like this give awards for years-of-service (5 yr, 10 yr, etc). Appreciation awards are separated apparently for their purposes, and likely would include stuff like best brown-noser, etc)

Probably not worth the effort for an nit game nobody will show up to anyway
