STILLWATER — No. 17 Oklahoma State Softball fell to Iowa State, 5-4, in eight innings Friday at Cowgirl Stadium.
The Cowgirls dipped to 23-13 overall and 5-6 in the Big 12, and the Cyclones improved to 19-7 on the season and 8-5 in the conference.
Iowa State opened the scoring in the first inning with an RBI single from Jessie Clemons, but OSU tied up the game in the bottom frame thanks to a solo home run from Rosie Davis.
The Cyclones got out to a two-run lead in the fourth off a home run from Sydney Malott to score Clemons.
Megan Bloodworth blasted a solo home run to right field in the fifth inning to cut the deficit to one.
Malott homered again in the top of the seventh to extend the Iowa State lead to two, but Davis sent the contest into extra innings with a two-run double to score Tallen Edwards and pinch runner Tara Vandewater.
The Cyclones grabbed the lead back in the eighth inning with an RBI single from Karlee Ford. Rachael Hathoot singled in the OSU half of the eighth, but was stranded on first to end the game.
Ruby Meylan (15-6) took the loss for the Cowgirls despite a career-high 14 strikeouts and going the full eight innings. Jaiden Ralston improved to 5-5 with the win.
Offensive standouts for Oklahoma State included Davis (2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs), Bloodworth (2-for-3 with home run, a double and an RBI) and Claire Timm (1-for-3 with a double.)
The Cowgirls return to action at noon tomorrow for the second game in the series. The game will be live streamed on ESPN+ and can be heard on the Varsity Network app.
