Two Oklahoma State Guards Enter the Transfer Portal

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State now has four roster spots to fill as the guard pair of Arturo Dean and Khalil Brantley both entered the transfer portal on Saturday.

It was announced during the Cowboy football spring game Dean was entering and it was announced Saturday evening Brantley was entering. The pair come as a bit of surprise because the transfer portal closes in less than three days. And it was assumed Brantley had exhausted his eligibility.

Dean was fourth on the stat sheet this past season for the Pokes, averaging nearly eight points and three rebounds per game. He also averaged just over three assists per game, for a total of 116 on the season. He had 84 steals and 80 turnovers.

Dean played in 34 games, starting in 21.

As for Brantley, he averaged just over six points per game and 2.6 rebounds per game. He played in 34 games this past season, starting in 14.

Lutz and Co. now have nine scholarship spots filled, with Brantley, Dean, Connor Dow, Jamyron Keller and Mikey Kelvin II in the portal, and the additions of Mississippi State guard guards Kanye Clary, Seton Hall guard Isaiah Coleman, Green Bay guard Anthony Roy, LSU guard Vyctorius Miller and Oregon State forward Parsa Fallah. The only two returning players on the roster are big man Andrija Vukovic and Robert Jennings II, and they’ve signed a the trio of high school players in guard Ryan Crotty and big men Mekhi Ragland and Ben Ahmed.

Safe travels and thanks for your play here at OSU. Good luck unless you show up on the other end of the court. GO POKES!!!

This is why I have little or no affinity for the athletes. And why I'm losing any affinity for our programs.

this is exactly why the portal exists to assist the kids that wish to spend their remaining eligibility on a team where they can compete for glory.

Our team and roster is a total unknown, it's hard to blame the kids. Hopefully they'll end up someplace that makes them happier.

Nope. Third team in three years for both. They have no interest in OSU, just like most every portal signee. They're seeking money - not glory, not a team, not a school, not a coach, money. I couldn't give a rip about em.

The portal represents everything wrong with college athletics. I simply won't celebrate any part of it.

Hopefully this madness ends soon. Figure out some sort of CBA or let the whole system implode. At this point I don't really care, I just can't imagine donors at any school are going to keep shelling out $500k for a 3rd string LB to play special teams and drive around town in his Escalade, then leave immediately after the season for $600k at Texas Tech or wherever. The institutions need to take back control or there will be hundreds of Nico cases each year.

but then.... 1) you don't know that, you just don't. This is NOT THE SAME TEAM they joined. WE brought in possibly better guards, 2) they might have discovered they don't like Lutz or maybe his approach.

you don't know.

and YES, this is why the portal is there for the players. It is. If they are not happy they should have options that do not severely restrict them.

You don't know if they'll get more money, you just don't.

and frankly, their one and only concern should be for their development and their education, not if they look good as a Poke.

none of us have to care about them, and they don't have to care about OSU. It is their freaking life to develop, not yours to shape for them and tell them how great it is to be loyal to something.

guys get cut from teams all the time, and nobody cares about our loyalty to them in that situation.

This is a plea to everyone. Come on guys... this transfer stuff is not going to stop, let's just wish them well and move on

lol. 2 guys from tier 2 conferences were looking to get tier 1 NIL$. They got paid and now are either (1) looking to get a bigger payday, or (2) aren't going get what they got this past year here in Stilly and are now looking elsewhere (most likely).

They came to Stilly, took our money, took advantage of our better school resources, better training and housing facilities, and better (I guess) coaching and instruction with little or no real gratitude or thanks - now in search of the next payday and half-way house.

Yeah the portal is here to stay, or at least as long as fans are willing to put up with it. If you think this scenario deserves our fan support, good for you. I, and many others, refuse to buy into or celebrate such nonsense. Just realize, it's the portal that facilitates all the movement, lack of loyalty and ridiculous NIL crap we now face and forced to accept - or not.

They were both just recruited over in the last two weeks. They're leaving so they can still have a chance to start and play full time.

So, they both left full-time situations to play in Stillwater, just to leave so they can pursue a full-time situation. Gotcha.

(Of course everybody is recruited to compete for a full-time role)

Yep, that's about it. Kids want money, but they want to play, not ride a bench.

Also staying this late it may have been a situation where they were just informed they needed to leave. We don't know, but teams cut players these days. Or, at least told they weren't going to have as PT as they had this year.

Quit clinging to something that never really existed. In most cases the only reason kids were fully bought in was because they had gotten a scholarship and once you were at a school you had no real option but to stick it out.

Ride the bench? They both averaged over 20 min per game.

Quit clinging to what (that never existed), exactly? The idea that kids wanted to play for a specific school, or coach, or set of teammates? And then felt pride in that school or team? And played for and defended the home court of their "team" and/or "school"? And felt loyalty to the fans and school?

dude, pay attention.

another poster already stated "recruited over"

meaning doesn't matter what they did in the past, we now have better guards in Lutz's 2nd recruiting class

why do you want to demonize the kids. You're an adult. Come on man

Not entirely sure what "recruited over" is intended to imply, but every roster has at least 6 or 8 guards and every coach has to fill-out his roster after end of season departures. Brantley and Dean were the only two experienced guards left on the roster which means Lutz probably had 6 guard spots to fill. Thus I'm not sure "recruited over" is a thing in this situation. Nevertheless, two guys with tons of experience, and a year in Lutz' system in all likelihood aren't going to be relegated to the bench.

You said it yourself - we don't have to care about them. And I don't care any more about them than they do OSU. It is what it is - they're working the (ridiculous) system that is college. athletics.

I did say "we don't have to care about them"

However, I do choose to care about them, and I wish them well.

and I thank them for helping us through the first year transition.
