STILLWATER – The transfer portal is officially open, which means the offers from Oklahoma State and Eric Morris have started to go out and it appears they have a North Texas flavor. According to a report from 247Sports, Cowboy football is set to host Ayo Adeyi, a running back from James Madison and North Texas.

Adeyi checks in at 5-8, 200 pounds and is out of Mansfield (TX) Legacy. He has spent the past two seasons with the Dukes after transferring from North Texas ahead of the 2024 season. He suffered a season-ending injury two games into the 2024 season, receiving a medical redshirt after having 20 carries for yards and one touchdown.

This past season, he played in four regular season games and two postseason games, retaining his redshirt. He finished the season with 24 carries for 120 yards.

But his 2023 season at North Texas was spectacular. He finished the year with 143 carries for 1,017 yards and six touchdowns, averaging just over seven yards per carry. He finished ranked fourth nationally and led the American in yards per rush.

As a sophomore in 2022, Adeyi rushed for 807 yards and four touchdowns on 112 carries and was a member of the Conference USA All-Freshman Team in 2021 with 84 carries for 496 yards and six touchdowns.

Adeyi began his career at D2 Harding in Arkansas in 2020, but never played due to COVID.

So, while Morris inherited Adeyi ahead of the 2023 season when he became the head coach of the Mean Green, there’s still enough of a relationship there.

Another name to keep track of is Kansas transfer offensive lineman, Tyler Mercer, who announced on Thursday he was entering the portal. Mercer was a true freshman All-American at North Texas in 2024. A reunion with Morris and O-line coach Cody Crill could certainly be in the future.
