STILLWATER, Ok. – Has Oklahoma State found its assistant coach to fill the spot left by former assistant Cannen Cunningham? According to a report from the Omaha World-Herald, Creighton assistant Terrence Rencher is planning on leaving Greg McDermott’s staff to join Mike Boynton and Co. in Stillwater.

The World-Herald confirmed Rencher’s intentions to leave Creighton for Oklahoma State on Tuesday.

Nothing has been confirmed on either end, just Rencher’s intentions, but let’s take a look at the Bronx product. Rencher joined the Creighton program in November of 2019 after two and a half seasons as an assistant at the University of San Diego. He’s also spent time as an assistant at New Mexico, Texas State, Tulsa and Sam Houston State.

Originally out of the Bronx, Rencher was tabbed Mr. Basketball in the state of New York in 1991 and played his college back at Texas, where he remains the leader in points (2,306) and steals (255). He was named the Southwest Conference Freshman of the Year in 1992 and played in three NCAA tournaments.

Following his collegiate career, he spent a decade playing professionally in the NBA, CBA and overseas in Europe. Drafted with the 32nd pick by the Washington Bullets, Rencher spent the 1995-96 season with the Miami Heat and Phoenix Suns before spending nine seasons playing in Europe where he earned MVP awards in both Germany and Italy.

With Rencher hailing from the Bronx, as well as being a really good assistant coach who’s seemingly had success everywhere he’s gone, it seems to be a good fit for Brooklyn native Mike Boynton.

Pokes Report will continue to follow this story and Mike Boynton’s search for an assistant coach.
