STILLWATER – Just six days after his commitment, Oklahoma State makes it official as they announce the signing of Texas Tech transfer forward, Tyreek Smith.

Smith committed to the Pokes back on April 28 after being in the portal for just a few weeks following the 2020-21 season.

"Tyreek will be an instant-impact player in our program," head coach Mike Boynton said in the release. "His hard-playing, competitive nature will elevate the intensity of our practices. He has the length and athleticism to improve our ability to have success on the interior, and an untapped skill set that will allow our offense to flow well. I can't wait to get him on campus."

Smith is a 6-7, 220-pound forward out of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. As a redshirt freshman this past season, Smith came off the bench in all of the Red Raiders’ 29 games and averaged 2.6 points, 2.4 rebounds and was second on the team in blocks with 21. The game against TCU on March 2 was arguably his best game of the season ass he posted nine points on 4-of-4 shooting from the floor in 14 minutes.

Smith spent the 2019-20 season as a medical redshirt, but arrived in Lubbock, TX as a four-star forward out of Trinity Christian in Baton Rouge. As a senior, Smith averaged a double-double on the season with 17.9 points and 12.3 rebounds with 3.0 blocks per game to boot. Oklahoma State was one of the first teams to offer Smith way back in June of 2017.

While his numbers might not have been too impressive his first year on the court for the Red Raiders, Smith is a physical and impressive athlete down low and is a huge boost for the Pokes in the paint. Adds size, which Boynton and Co. need, and adds depth down low, which is also something they needed.
