Oklahoma State Dismantles ORU in 81-60 Home Win

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State is now 2-0 in in-state non-conference games as they dismantled ORU in Gallagher-Iba Arena on Sunday afternoon, 81-60.

With the win, the Cowboys moved to 5-5 on the season and riding a two-game win streak.

The Cowboys had three scores in double figures as both Bryce Thompson and Quion Williams finished with 13 points apiece and freshman Eric Dailey Jr. with 12 points.

Thompson was solid behind the 3-point line as all four of his buckets were 3-pointers, finishing 4-of-11 from the field and 4-of-9 from beyond  the arc. He also went just 1-of-2 from the free throw line and finished with four assists. Williams was stellar from the field as he went 6-of-8 from the field, 1-of-2 from 3-point range and had three rebounds.

As for Dailey, he finished the game with a double-double as he went 5-of-11 from field and led the Pokes with 11 rebounds, nine coming on the defensive end of the court.

While ORU isn’t and won’t be the Pokes’ toughest challenge of the season, this was a great win for Mike Boynton and Co. They jumped out to multiple double-digit leads throughout the course of the game, while allowing the Golden Eagles to get back into the game with runs of their own. Like when the Pokes jumped out to a 31-17 lead with 9:47 remaining in the first half and ORU drilled two quick threes and a jumper to get the game back within six. The Cowboys then responded with a  12-0 run to the 2:50 mark.

They also limited their turnovers to just 11, down from the 28 turnovers they had last week in the win over Tulsa. They also outscored the Golden Eagles 28-16 in the paint and dominated the rebound battle, 38-29.

With two wins in a row going into the final three non-conference games of the first half of the season, the Cowboys have a very real chance of heading into conference play riding a five-game winning streak. With the ups and downs to start the season, there’s no better time to be riding a high.

Saw lots of growth in this game by some extremely talented young players. Great ball movement, improving defense, and better shot selection. I really liked some accountability by coach when players reverted to old habits and poor decisions. Gives me hope this team might be competitive by conference. Get some butts in those seats and let's put some wins together. Go Pokes!

So much more ball movement! Seeing shots start to fall is fun, but you know that comes and goes. But actually seeing these guys move the ball around and pass until the defense breaks down was so encouraging to see. Keep that up!

Yes, this was the first time I saw them putting something together. Not just random trips down the court. Garrison and Miranda are starting to pick up on the game and that's going to be huge once you have a good core down low.
