Oklahoma State Baseball Trio Adds To All-America Honors
STILLWATER – Three Oklahoma State Cowboys – Carson Benge, Brian Holiday and Nolan Schubart – were named to the 2024 Baseball America All-America Second Team.
The three selections gives Cowboy Baseball 145 All-America honors in its history and adds to an already strong list of accolades for each player in 2024.
Benge was named a Baseball America All-American as a utility player after previously earning All-America Second Team honors from Perfect Game/Rawlings and the NCBWA and third-team plaudits from ABCA/Rawlings. Among his other honors, the sophomore outfielder/pitcher was also one of five finalists for the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award and a semifinalist for the Dick Howser Trophy.
Schubart, who is the 13th player in program history to collect All-America honors in multiple seasons, made the Baseball America All-America Second Team after previously earning second team All-America honors from Perfect Game/Rawlings and the NCBWA.
Holiday's Baseball America All-America selection is his third All-American honor as he was also on the NCBWA second team and the ABCA/Rawlings third team.
The only Cowboy to start all 61 games in 2024, Benge hit .335 and led the Big 12 with 165 total bases while ranking second in runs (72) and third in hits (83), doubles (24), home runs (18), RBIs (64) and slugging percentage (.665).
On the mound, Benge made 18 appearances, starting the season as the Cowboys' closer before transitioning into a starting role.
The right-hander went 3-2 with a 3.16 ERA and tied for the team lead with three saves, and he racked up 44 strikeouts in 37 innings of work. Opponents hit just .186 against him.
Holiday put up impressive numbers in his first season in Stillwater as the junior went 7-3 and led the Big 12 with 128 strikeouts, the eighth most in a season in OSU history.
A right-hander, Holiday made 16 starts for the Cowboys and led the conference with 113 innings pitched while ranking second with a 2.95 ERA and three complete games. Opponents hit just .199 against him, which ranked fourth in the league.
Holiday pitched at least six innings in 15 of his 16 appearances and recorded five double-digit strikeout performances, including a pair of 14-strikeout efforts.
Schubart posted a .370 batting average, leading the Cowboys and ranking second in the Big 12, and he led the conference in home runs (23), RBIs (68), on-base percentage (.513) and slugging percentage (.838).
Schubart's .838 slugging percentage is the sixth highest in a season in OSU history, and his 23 homers were the most by a Cowboys since the 1999 season.
A sophomore outfielder who missed 12 games due to injury, Schubart racked up 145 total bases and also ranked in the top 10 in the Big 12 in walks (49) and runs (55).
