CowgirlFC Romps Through to NCAA Sweet 16
GREENSBORO, N.C. – A 7-0 win over Sun Belt champion South Alabama Friday night propelled the Oklahoma State soccer team into the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.
Gabriella Coleman, Grace Yochum and Megan Haines scored two goals apiece to lead the way for what was the second-highest goal output ever for OSU in NCAA Tournament game.
The Cowgirls dominated all facets of the first half and were already up two when Coleman got loose for a breakaway on goal in the 22nd minute. In desperation, South Alabama’s Gabrielle Gayle grabbed Coleman’s jersey and dragged her down from behind. She was shown a red card and Yochum scored on the ensuing set piece to put the game out of reach.
Playing with a player advantage for the rest of the game, OSU dominated and was able to get its starters to the bench for a good amount of rest in the second half.
With the win, Oklahoma State advanced to face Texas A&M at 11 a.m. CT on May 5 in Cary, N.C. The Aggies were 2-0 winners over South Florida earlier in the day.
