Texas Loses Nation's No. 6 Recruit to In-State Rival

He had visits with Texas, Michigan, Ohio State, Florida
and Tech's money gets him...
hmmm
It's no so much Tech stole (bought) a recruit over Texas, it's the fact they GUARANTEED him the $5 mil before he ever plays a snap of his senior season. If they think he's worth 5mil, good for them and I say go for it. But to guarantee him all the money before his senior year in HS is crazy.
over 3 years....
we don't really know the details, or conditions, do we?
Just that it's a three-year, fully-guaranteed deal.
Yeah, I got that, which his agent said was to protect his future and his family because football is a brutal sport.
What I've seen reported does not mention what would happen if he
chooses to leave, for personal reasons, or perhaps for a better offer.
I would be interested to see if there are other conditions in the contract. In the NFL deals like this are common, but there are many contingencies and conditions built in.
i.e., if you do your part, then it's guaranteed one season at a time, or if injured and unable to play, fully guaranteed. Clearly lots of concerns swirl around such guarantees, some of which are mentioned in this thread.
I just find it fascinating, and would like to know the details rather than speculate on what it might mean exactly.
This could be the model for how to do these deals, or it could be the example of how NOT to do it.
I suppose we'll find out the details and repercussions eventually over the next 3 years.
