STILLWATER – Oklahoma State wrapped non-conference play with as dominant of a win as we’ve seen in Stillwater in some time as the Pokes beat Murray State 59-0.

With the win, the Pokes improved to 2-1 on the season and marked the Pokes’ first shutout of an opponent since the 21-0 road win over Texas Tech in 2021 and the first home shutout since the 84-0 win over Savannah State.

Drew Mestemaker had as an efficient game as you could’ve hoped for as he finished going 20-of-22 for 324 yards and five touchdowns through the first drive in the third quarter.

Broderick Vehrs went a perfect 6-for-6 for 37 yards and one touchdown and three carries for eight yards.

Receiver Justin Bowick had nine catches for 178 yards and two touchdowns, both season highs for OSU, while Caleb Hawkings had 11 carries for 72 yards.

Ayo Adeyi finished with seven carries for 67 yards.

As a team, the Cowboys combined for 662 yards, 361 yards through the air and 301 yards on the ground. They had 33 first downs and went 4-for-7 on third down on 73 plays. They averaged 9.1 yards per play, 13.9 yards per completion and 6.7 yards per rush.

The defense held MSU to just 160 yards of offense, 84 passing and 78 rushing and 0-for-12 on third downs.

Miles Coleman got into the end for the first time in his OSU career as he caught a two-yard pass from Mestemaker to put the Pokes on board first at the 9:15 mark in the first quarter.

Wyatt Young was next on the board as he caught a 13-yard pass from Mestemaker before the end of the first quarter to put the Pokes 14-0. Bowick caught the first of his two touchdowns at the 13:05 mark in the second quarter on a 24-yard pass from Mestemaker, giving Mestemaker three passing touchdowns up to that point.

The Racers defense held strong midway through the first half, leading to a 23-yard field goal from Sam Keltner to put the Pokes up 24-0, but Mestemaker to Bowick wasn’t done yet. The duo connected just a few minutes later on a 36-yard pass with 3:41 left in the first half to put the Pokes on top 31-0.

Mestemaker would throw his fifth and final touchdown of the night less than two minutes into the third quarter as he connected with Terrence Lewis from 31 yards out to put the Pokes up 38-0, the final throw of the night for Mestemaker.

The true freshman Vehrs came into the game and nearly immediately threw the first touchdown pass of his career, connecting with TE Carson Kolb from 10 yards out for Kolb’s second touchdown of the season.

Redshirt sophomore Tre Page III got into the end zone for the first time this season as he got into the end zone from six yards out to put the Pokes up 52-0.

Freshman KD ‘Batman’ Jones got into the end zone on his first career carry from six yards out to put the Pokes up 59-0. It just so happens to be Batman Day.
