Report: Oklahoma State Football Player Accused of Assaulting Stillwater Police Officer

A current member of the Oklahoma State football team is being accused of assaulting a Stillwater police officer during a June traffic stop.

Trey Rucker, a walk-on who transferred to Oklahoma State from Wake Forest back in January 2021, is being charged in Payne County with assault, DUI, failure to give information at the scene of an accident, operating a vehicle with a suspended license and resisting arrest.

A spokesperson at OSU said they didn’t have a comment as they were still gathering information on the situation.

The arrest was first reported by Patti Weaver of KUSH 1600. According to the arresting officer’s affidavit, a witness reported a hit and run accident to police following a car driving away after hitting two cars. The car “was leaving parts as it drove away” and police said following a trail of fluids led them to a black Chevy Equinox and a driver who was later identified as Rucker.

According to the affidavit, the arresting officer wrote Rucker was slurring his speech and had been warned multiple times about getting too close to the officer. Rucker kept telling the officer he was “OSU Football.”

The officer wrote he attempted to place Rucker under arrest, but he kept pulling away. Other officers arrived to assist in the arrest before a taser was deployed and discharged to bring Rucker to the ground where he was placed in custody.

Rucker posted bond and was released from the Payne County jail on June 3 and according to the Stillwater News Press, his attorney has asked for a continuance.

Rucker played in only five games during his sophomore season in 2020 due to a foot injury, but recorded 19 tackles, defended two passes and hauled in one interception.

He participated in spring football, but wasn’t on the two-deep following the spring. Sources confirmed after the spring that he was not a candidate to be put on scholarship. Depending on the results of the situation in the course of the leagl proceedings, you would have to think his status with the program would be in doubt.
