Stillwater Stars Accepted Into 2021 TBT; Roster Announced

STILLWATER – The Stillwater Stars, the Oklahoma State affiliated TBT team, has been formally accepted into the 64-team field for the 2021 TBT.

The roster for this year’s tournament was announced over the past few days and it’s full of former Oklahoma State standouts. They’ve currently announced 10 players, but we’ll keep an eye out for any other possible additions.

  • Chris Olivier (2015-16)
  • Brandon Averette (2016-18)
  • Jonathan Laurent (2019-20)
  • Michael Qualls (Arkansas)
  • Nate Grimes (Fresno State)

According to the release, “The #9 seed Stillwater Stars will take on the #8 seed The Enchantment (New Mexico alumni) in the team’s first-round game on Saturday, July 17 at 7 pm CT. If Stillwater Stars advances to the second round, they will face the winner of Eberlein Drive and NG Saints on Sunday, July 18 at 8 pm CT. The third and final games of the Wichita regional will take place on Tuesday, July 20. TV broadcast information will be announced soon.”

The Basketball Tournament 2021 is returning to its original format of 64 teams playing across five cities, Wichita, KS July 16-20, Charleston, WV July 17-21, Columbus, OH July 23-27, Peoria, Illinois July 24-28 and the TBT Championship in Dayton, OH July 31-Aug. 3.

It’s a single elimination tournament with the winning team taking home $1 million.

Quite a few of these guys were set to play in the 2020 TBT but weren’t able to make it due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Stillwater Stars were one of 24 teams that competed in the 2020 TBT, The Basketball Tournament, in Columbus, Ohio at Nationwide Arena. The No. 21 seed in the tournament, the Stars opened play against No. 12 Brotherly Love, but lost 87-71 in the opening round.  

Le’Bryan Nash led the way for the Stillwater Stars with 30 points and five rebounds.
