Doug Gottlieb Selected to Coach TBT Stillwater Stars
Oklahoma State’s alumni team, the Stillwater Stars, has a new head coach for the 2021 The Basketball Tournament. Former Oklahoma State player Doug Gottlieb is returning to the orange and black. Gottlieb will be coaching The Stillwater Stars in The Basketball Tournament, $1-million first-place prize.
Phil Forte was set to coach the team but has since been hired back onto Travis Ford’s staff at Saint Louis. It’s been a busy few months for Forte as he was hired at SLU a month after he was named an assistant coach at UT Rio Grande Valley. Forte was a grad student assistant for Ford from 2017-19.
Joining Gottlieb on his staff will be another former Oklahoma State standout, Brian Montonati. During Montonati’s last season in Stillwater, he averaged 12.1 points and 7.2 rebounds per game.
Gottlieb is the all-time Oklahoma State leader in assists as he dished out an insane 793 assists during his three seasons in Stillwater. He averaged 8.2 assists per game during his career.
Gottlieb and Montonati will have a fun roster to coach this summer as they’ll have Marshall Moses, Markel Brown, Cezar Guerrero and Jeffrey Carroll among others.a
The Stillwater Stars will compete in the Wichita Regional at the Charles Koch Arena on July 16-20. Among the teams entered for that regional are Aftershocks (Wichita State akumni), Purple and Black (Kansas State aumni), Team Arkansas (Arkansas alumni), Fort Worth Funk (TCU alumni), and the Ex Pats (Patriot League alumni).
